The new invaders around here are ring-necked parakeets, which are highly intelligent. They're self-confident birds, but they do realise that they're no match for a squirrel, which is a lot heavier. There's one way to keep the squirrel at the foot of the bird-table though, and make sure it doesn't climb up and turf you off. Feed it! This parakeet spent twenty minutes dropping seed onto the ground, then cocking its head on one side to check that the squirrel was too busy eating it to consider shinning up the metal pole.
